It’s the most wonderful time of the year, not to mention the most delicious.
For Alex Amoroso, owner of Cheesecakes by Alex, the holidays evoke warm childhood memories of spending time in the kitchen baking with his beloved grandmother as she whipped up batch after batch of traditional Italian cookies, filling the house with fragrant, mouthwatering aromas. But Alex is quick to admit that the flavor most people associate with the holidays isn’t almond or anise, but chocolate.
“Our best-selling cheesecake flavors this time of year are our Simply Chocolate, Chocolate Brownie Turtle and White Chocolate Raspberry, which looks really festive with a red swirl on top,” he says. “Crème Brulee, Eggnog and Strawberry Red Velvet are also popular options right now.”
Mint makes plenty of baking appearances in December as well, especially in conjunction with chocolate, as do winter seasonal citrus fruits like orange and lemon.
“To me, the quintessential holiday dessert is a coconut layer cake,” Alex adds. “It’s something that’s on my holiday table every year.”
Customers looking to make a big splash at office parties or family gatherings can bring out a tempting holiday platter of treats from Cheesecakes by Alex.
“We can assemble a whole cheesecake from different flavored slices and then surround it with brownies and cookies,” Alex says. “It’s always impressive to serve and offers something for everyone.”
When it comes to cookies, once again, chocolate reigns supreme — especially chocolate chip, chocolate peanut butter and white chocolate macadamia nut — with Snickerdoodles closely following. Alex also considers holiday breakfasts a perfect opportunity to splurge on special indulgences customers don’t usually allow themselves to enjoy through the rest of the year.
“It’s a great time to treat yourself and your visiting family and friends,” he explains. “We’re happy to put together a variety of crumb cake, croissants, muffins and pastries for you and your guests to enjoy at home.”
Through Dec. 22, Cheesecakes by Alex customers can write their names and phone numbers on their receipts to drop in a jar for “20 Days of Giving” drawings to celebrate the bakery’s 20th anniversary this year. Winners are announced daily on the company’s social media platforms, culminating in the final grand prize drawing for a year’s worth of free cheesecake.
Both Cheesecakes by Alex locations will be open until 3 p.m. Christmas Eve, closing on Christmas Day and for a long weekend over New Year’s to allow staff a chance to relax with their families before returning to work on Jan. 2, 2023. Alex urges customers to get their holiday orders in as soon as possible, especially if shipping is involved.
“We send our cheesecakes all over the country,” he says. “If customers want to bring in a handwritten card, we’re happy to include it in the mailing to give your gift that personal touch.”
