Luckily for Joshua, Desaree has a good sense of humor. Not realizing she was part Hispanic, Joshua took her on their first date for tacos. That date has since turned into one of their favorite inside jokes and a fond memory that’s just part of their unique love story.
Desaree’s love of scrapbooking would be the perfect way for Joshua, president of STS, to propose to her. In a book filled with all of their favorite adventures, he labeled the last page — but it was lacking a photo. After he got down on one knee and proposed (and after she said yes) they took a photo together to add to their scrapbook.
Soon after the memorable proposal, the couple was joined by 80 of their closest friends and relatives to share their nuptials at Chateau Vie in Walnut Cove. The rustic, country-themed wedding was picture-perfect for the couple, from saying ‘I do’ to dancing together to “Humble and Kind” by Tim McGraw.
Both the bride and groom fondly remember the day, and the first look stood out to each of them as the most memorable moment.
“I remember my soon-to-be husband turning around with tears rolling down his face and a smile from ear to ear,” says Desaree, a surgical assistant at Tarheel Periodontics and Implant Dentistry.
That moment meant everything to Joshua, as well.
“I will never forget the moment I turned around and saw Desaree in her wedding dress for the first time,” he says.
Another romantic touch was the personal letters the bride and groom wrote to each other and read on the morning of their wedding.
“These letters are stored in a box with all the cards we received from family and friends and we will read those letters and cards on our 5-year anniversary,” Desaree says.
When it came to the wedding planning, the bride’s vision of a simple dress changed once she started trying on dresses.
“I thought I would be OK with a simple dress, but as soon as I started trying gowns on, I couldn’t help but bring out the plastic,” says Desaree. “Take your time with your dress and get the one you really want. While they say you only wear the dress once, you look at wedding pictures for the rest of your life.”
The memories live on forever, too.
“I fondly remember how incredibly excited and blessed I felt to be marrying the love of my life on that day,” Joshua says. “It was a surreal experience — and one of the greatest moments in my life.”
