The Winston-Salem Police Department said Friday night that it has received no requests from the KKK for a rally here, nor has the department issued any permits to the KKK for holding any demonstration in the city.

Police officials said in a release that they had received several inquiries from residents about a potential KKK rally here downtown on Saturday. Police said the information appears to be a social media rumor.

Police said they are ready to deal with anything unusual downtown. They said people should report any suspicious activity to police.

A group called Indivisible Piedmont is holding a rally in opposition to white nationalism at 10:30 a.m. Saturday between Cherry and Marshall streets in downtown Winston-Salem. The group said it would be calling on lawmakers to denounce President Trump's comments on the Charlottesville violence.
