Prom night definitely went to the dogs Thursday at Yappily Ever After in Winston-Salem.

The red-carpet fundraiser for the Forsyth Humane Society’s building fund was held at Ruff Housing dog daycare, training and grooming at 5648 Country Club Road. About 35 dogs — many in prom dresses and tuxedos, complete with corsages and boutonnieres — and their human friends came out to support the organization’s effort for a new building.

Tell us about the times you’ve dressed up your pet.

There wasn’t much in the way of dancing — unless you count twirling dogs in tutus with their eyes focused on the treat in their owners’ hands. But there was plenty of fun.

Kim Vaughn, the owner of Ruff Housing, said that the prom was a great way to raise community awareness about the need for a new building. She said that all the contributions haven’t been counted.

“There’s a great need for them and the community,” Vaughan said about the project. “The goal is $3.8 million, and so far about $3 million has been raised. We’re confident that the community will step up and help raise the rest of the money. Winston-Salem is a great dog loving community.”
