A Watauga County man was shot and killed by a Watauga County sheriff's deputy overnight, authorities said.
The victim was Robert Wickson King, 64, and the shooting occurred along Roby Greene Road, according to a spokeswoman for the State Bureau of Investigation.
The officer involved was Detective Aaron Franklin Billings, 26, according to the SBI.
Watauga County Sheriff Len Hagaman could not be reached.
The SBI investigation is ongoing, and was started at the request of the sheriff's office. That's the standard procedure in officer-involved shootings.
