As Danville prepares for three days of America’s 250th birthday celebrations beginning Thursday, the City is encouraging everyone to make heat safety part of their holiday plans.
The National Weather Service forecasts dangerously hot conditions through Saturday, with afternoon temperatures possibly exceeding 100 degrees and heat index values potentially reaching 110 degrees.
Residents and visitors planning to attend the City's outdoor concerts, family activities, and Saturday night's fireworks display are encouraged to take precautions before heading out.
"These events are a great opportunity for our community to come together and celebrate, but the extreme heat means everyone needs to plan ahead," Deputy Fire Chief Ryan Campbell said Wednesday. "Drink water throughout the day, take breaks in the shade or air conditioning, and know the signs of heat-related illness. A few simple precautions can help ensure everyone has a safe and enjoyable holiday weekend."
