Greensboro, N.C. – Assistant principals fill an important role in our schools, from administrative duties to offering support to our educators in the classroom. These are individuals who go above and beyond for their communities, often without being noticed or receiving praise.
Assistant Principal Jario Lopez is that leader at Southern High. He manages the sophomore class, oversees end-of-year testing and nurtures positive relationships with his students and staff. If someone has a question, they know that Lopez has the answer or knows where to find it. His willingness to step in and provide assistance has left an immeasurable impact on his community.
“If a computer breaks down, we call Mr. López,” wrote ESOL interpreter Herlinda Garza Estrada in one of many nominations. “If a student is in trouble in the classroom, we call Mr. López. If there is an IEP meeting or an event, we call Mr. López. For everything—the solution is Mr. López. Mr. López is a person with a big heart and a deep love for our high school students and staff. He is always ready to help and support everyone with their needs so that we can all work together as a great team. He always has a smile and a very pleasant personality, offering the right words at the right moments. He does more than just perform his role as an Assistant Principal; his love for sharing knowledge and his passion for teaching are evident. Above all, his actions speak to his values and moral standards. I am grateful that we have assistant principals like Mr. López. For this and more, I believe he could be nominated not only for Employee of the Month but also as a role model for our school community. Thank you, Mr. Lopez."
Lopez was surprised with the news of his Employee of the Month nomination two weeks before the start of a new school year in Guilford County Schools, an amazing way to ring in another great year of learning.
Lopez received a $50 gift card courtesy of the Greensboro Jaycees. During the month of August, his photo will be displayed at the district’s central offices, Southern High and in the Greensboro Jaycees office.
