The Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools Board of Education approved Dr. Randy Bridges as interim superintendent during their meeting on Tuesday, September 22.
Dr. Bridges worked as a superintendent between 1997 and 2017 in five different school districts across North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia. After his retirement, he served as an interim superintendent in several other districts, most recently Wake County Schools. He also has previous work experience as an associate superintendent, principal, assistant principal, teacher, and basketball coach.
Dr. Bridges holds a Doctor of Education degree from Fayetteville State University, an Education Specialist degree from East Carolina University, undergraduate and master’s degrees from the University of North Carolina at Pembroke, and an associate degree from Louisburg College.
In 2015, Bridges was inducted into the Order of the Longleaf Pine, North Carolina’s highest recognition for a career dedicated to public service. He has also won a wide range of other professional awards, including Superintendent of the Year from both the North Carolina Association of Educators and the North Carolina School Boards Association.
Board Chair Deanna Kaplan described Bridges as a proven leader and feels confident he can guide the district to success as it begins its next chapter.
"I am excited to welcome Dr. Bridges to Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools," Kaplan said. "He has a tremendous amount of educational experience in North Carolina, and I know he is the right person to lead our district at this time. I am sure he will bring energy and steady leadership to WS/FCS."
Dr. Bridges will begin his new role on October 1. His swearing in ceremony will take place early next week, with the exact date and time to be announced soon. His contract runs through June 30, 2027.
