The Danville Regional Airport will welcome families and aviation enthusiasts on Saturday, Nov. 7, for a Free Fly Day and Airport Open House featuring free airplane rides for children, tours of airport facilities, and hands-on educational activities.
The event will take place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and is free and open to the public.
Flight instructors from Averett University will provide free airplane rides for children ages 6 to 17. No advance registration is required, and flights will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis. The final flights are expected to depart between 1 p.m. and 1:30 p.m., so families interested in participating are encouraged to arrive early.
In addition to the airplane rides, visitors will have an opportunity to tour airport facilities, including the Operations Tower, and learn more about airport operations.
The Danville Science Center also will offer its StarLab experience, giving visitors an opportunity to explore a star-filled night sky and take a simulated journey into space aboard the Orion spacecraft.
Free refreshments will be available throughout the event.
Due to ongoing construction activities at the airport, overflow parking will be available, with free shuttle bus service provided to transport visitors between the parking area and the event.
The event is weather-dependent. If weather conditions prevent activities from taking place on Nov. 7, the event will be rescheduled for Saturday, Nov. 14, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
