Police have identified the man who died at the scene from his injuries as Marvin Allen Watlington, 38, of Greensboro.
Officers have notified his next-of-kin.
His death is being investigated as a homicide, which is the city’s 20th of 2026.
GREENSBORO, NC (September 20, 2026) – One person died and four other people were injured by gunfire earlier today in the 4600 block of West Market Street.
Greensboro Police, along with Greensboro Fire Department and Guilford County EMS, responded just before 2 a.m. to a report of a shooting at “Club O” or “The O” at 4618 W. Market St.
It was reported that multiple people had been shot outside of the business.
EMS pronounced one person dead at the scene at approximately 2:11 a.m.; our officers are working to confirm this individual’s identity.
There were four additional gunshot victims: two were transported by EMS, and two arrived at the hospital by private vehicle.
One person was also injured by broken glass.
Homicide Unit detectives and CSI specialists responded to process the scene and to interview witnesses to the shooting. Detectives learned that there was a disturbance that occurred in front of the establishment that led to multiple shots fired.
Detectives began identifying businesses that could assist the investigation by providing exterior surveillance footage.
It is still early in this investigation. We will release another update once we have additional information to share.
North Carolina Alcohol Law Enforcement (ALE) also will be investigating.
