On July 10, during the Friday evening opening ceremonies of the 2026 NC State 4-H Horse Show, the show was officially dedicated to volunteer leader Wayne Moore.
For more than three decades, Wayne has been a steadfast supporter, educator, mentor, and advocate for young people involved in the 4-H Horse Program. Wayne's involvement with the 4-H Horse Program began through his service as a volunteer leader in Sampson County 4-H. Over the years, he expanded his leadership by serving as a representative on the Southeast District 4-H Horse Council and the State Advisory Committee. For over 30 years, Wayne has been a staple at the State 4-H Horse Show, serving as a pillar of support, guidance, and endless positivity.
One of Wayne's most enduring contributions to the North Carolina 4-H Horse Program was his involvement with the Millstone 4-H Horsemanship Camp. For 20 years, he served as a cornerstone of the camp experience, teaching and encouraging countless youth during the summer sessions and making sure the foxes behind his cabin were adequately fed each night. Many former campers still credit Wayne with helping them develop both their horsemanship skills and their confidence as young riders.
When he is not mentoring youth or supporting horse programs, Wayne enjoys foxhunting with the Moore County Hounds and spending time with his wife of 46 years, Lesa, and their children and grandchildren. He also spends many weekends in the judges' box as an NC Open Horse Show Judge across the state. Known for his friendly and cheerful disposition, he brings enthusiasm, humor, and positivity wherever he goes. No matter how busy he is, Wayne is always willing to lend a helping hand, step in where needed, and lift those around him. Simply put, Wayne is always a good time to have around.
