Football introduces Nimmons as defensive ends and edges coach
DANVILLE, Va. -- Averett University football head coach Matt Quinn introduced the addition of Jack Nimmons to the football staff as defensive ends and edges coach in July of 2026.
Nimmons most recently was at Eastern Alamance High School in Mebane, North Carolina, dating back to August of 2024. In that timeframe, Nimmons helped coach the defensive player of the year in the conference, in addition to having an all-conference linebacker. Nimmons also coached the defensive line and inside linebackers.
Before that, Nimmons was at in-state powerhouse Reidsville High School in 2022, where he was the defensive line coach. Prior to his time at Reidsville, he started his coaching journey at Page High School in 2020.
A former defensive end in college, Nimmons played collegiate football at Division-II Winston-Salem State University in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, from 2015-2019. There, he totaled 102 total tackles, 28 tackles for loss, 11.5 sacks and an interception. As a freshman, he was named a Second-Team HBCU All-American in 2017 and was a team captain in 2018.
Hailing from Reidsville, North Carolina, Nimmons attained his Bachelor of Science in sports management from Winston-Salem State in 2019. He also earned a campus certificate management degree in fashion merchandising from the City College of San Francisco in 2017.
