SALISBURY, N.C. – The Catawba women's volleyball team was downed by Anderson 3-0 on Friday night at Goodman Arena.
Rebekah Ayers was the offensive leader for the blue and white, posting nine kills on 22 total attacks. Maddie Henning recorded four blocks, three aces and five digs. Annica Kagle landed six kills on 14 attacks and had a hand in two blocks. Riley Hill notched 10 digs while Camden Bizot recorded 12 assists.
Catawba (8-4, 4-4 SAC) held its own in the blocks department, with each team delivering six. The blue and white hit .137 percent as a team on 102 total attacks. Anderson (13-2, 7-0 SAC) picked up its ninth straight win behind a .348 team hitting percentage and 11 service aces.
The Trojans claimed an early 6-3 first-set lead before Giulia Allison checked in to serve and brought the Catawba Indians in front by a narrow margin while landing an ace. The score was evened at 12 apiece before Anderson made its run. The Trojans took a 22-14 advantage and fended off a Catawba comeback effort where Henning recorded two aces, hanging on to win the stanza 25-19.
The Ayers twins (Maggie and Rebekah) would combine for eight kills in the second frame, but it was not enough as Anderson would record a .424 team hitting percentage while tallying 16 kills to win the second set 25-14.
After a slow start in the third set for Catawba, Rebekah Ayers would add five more kills; however, the Trojans would seal the match with a 25-17 victory by scoring on four aces and posting another efficient hitting percentage mark of .310.
The Catawba Indians will look to bounce back on Saturday, September 26, when they host Newberry at 2 p.m. for more SAC action at Goodman Arena.
