CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Big South Conference announced Monday afternoon that senior Ava Kertgate and sophomore Ryane Devlin have each earned weekly awards after helping lead the Highlanders to a pair of road conference wins. Kertgate earned the conference's offensive player of the week, while Devlin was the defensive player of the week.
Kertgate played a major role in the attack in both wins, as the senior assisted Haley Blake for Radford's second goal at Longwood. On Saturday, she scored her second goal of the season to put Radford up 2-0 at Charleston Southern, with Blake returning the favor for the Stafford, Va., native on the assist. Overall, Kertgate tied for the league lead over the week in shots (seven, with Cordelia McIntosh of Winthrop) and ranked second with three points.
Devlin began the week by scoring the game-winning goal on Wednesday. On a free kick from outside the box, the defender scored on a shot that floated over the goalkeeper and into the net to put the Highlanders ahead 1-0 in the second half. In addition to scoring her first goal, she helped the Radford back line in not allowing a goal over the pair of games, totaling 82 minutes at Longwood and 80 at Charleston Southern.
This is the second and third conference weekly awards for the Highlanders this season, after Lexi Radvanyi earned the defensive player of the week award back on Sept. 14. This is Devlin's second Big South weekly award, after earning freshman of the week on Sept. 29 last season. This is Kertgate's first weekly conference award, although the senior received conference all-academic honors in 2024 and was named to the CSC Academic All-District Team after last season.
The Highlanders hope to finish the regular season strong next Saturday, Oct. 31, when they host Presbyterian at Cupp Stadium. The action begins at 7 p.m. and will be streamed live on ESPN+.
