ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. -- The Ferrum College men's golf team completed the Jay Jennison Cup Tuesday at World Golf Village's Slammer & Squire Course, hosted by Flagler College. The Panthers finished 12th overall with a three-round total of 901 on the par-72, 6,939-yard course.
Flagler won the team title with an 836 three-round total, finishing four strokes ahead of Lynn at 840. Embry-Riddle (Fla.) finished third at 841, followed by Eckerd at 846 and Rollins at 852. Lenoir-Rhyne and Flagler B tied for sixth at 853. Flagler's Matthew French and Lynn's Tristan Wieland tied for individual medalist honors at 204 (-12). Ferrum finished 12th at 901 (+37).
Carson Iroler led the Panthers, tying for 42nd in the 73-player field with a three-round 220 (+4). Iroler opened with a team-best 71 (-1) before carding rounds of 76 and 73.
Jake Chavis finished 50th at 223 (+7), posting rounds of 72, 77 and 74. Wyatt Larson finished 64th at 229 (+13), with rounds of 73, 79 and 77. Ethan Hahn finished 71st at 237 (+21), shooting 77 in each of the first two rounds before closing with an 83. Nicholas Messenger rounded out the Ferrum lineup in 72nd at 239 (+23), posting rounds of 80, 84 and 75.
Ferrum shot 293 (+5) in the opening round before recording a 309 (+21) in the second round and a 299 (+11) in the final round.
Coach Adam Crawford's team will be back in action Monday and Tuesday, October 5-6, at the Curahee Collegiate Invitational. The tournament will be hosted by Erskine College at Curahee Club in Toccoa, Georgia.
