LANDRUM, S.C. — The Catawba College women's golf team finished third at the Glassy Mountain Autumn Classic on Monday at The Cliffs at Glassy.
The Catawba Indians posted a three-round total of 931 (+67), finishing just one stroke behind Belmont Abbey (930) and behind team champion Lander (902). Catawba carded rounds of 312, 302 and 317.
Mary-Paige King led Catawba in competition with a runner-up finish, shooting a 7-over 223. King opened with a 1-over 73 before firing a 3-under 69 in the second round. She finished with an 81 in the final round to finish two strokes behind individual champion Lara Stifter of Lander.
Sara Kristinsdottir and Rebecca Wildey tied for eighth at 18-over 234. Kristinsdottir carded rounds of 80, 76 and 78, while Wildey posted rounds of 75, 78 and 81.
Beth Gilmour finished 17th with a 25-over 241 after rounds of 84, 79 and 78. Hannah Waddell rounded out Catawba's lineup in a tie for 50th at 43-over 259, improving to an 80 in the final round.
King led the tournament with 35 pars on par-3 holes and recorded nine birdies, while Catawba finished second among the field with 27 total birdies.
Catawba returns to action Oct. 12-13 in Dahlonega, Ga., for the LeeAnn Noble Memorial.
