Bee City USA Danville, Danville Outdoors, Danville Public Works, and Danville Parks and Recreation invite residents to take part in an evening of environmental stewardship and family-friendly education during this year's Ladybug Release Day in the River District.
Participants will help release thousands of native convergent ladybugs throughout the River District while learning about their important role in supporting healthy gardens and ecosystems.
Convergent ladybugs are native to North America and serve as valuable natural predators, helping control aphids and other common garden pests. By reducing pest populations naturally, ladybugs can help decrease the need for chemical pesticides. These beneficial insects are often mistaken for Asian lady beetles, which commonly gather on homes during cooler months and can be identified by the distinctive black "M" marking behind their heads.
The event will feature educational programming and separate release opportunities for families and adults.
