Winston-Salem, N.C. — In response to forecast high temperatures and an elevated heat index, the City of Winston-Salem Recreation & Parks Department will implement its Extreme Heat Protocol at all municipal pools on Friday, June 12.
To ensure the safety of both guests and staff, as well as to allow for adequate rest breaks for lifeguards and other personnel, Mineral Springs Pool and Reynolds Park Pool will be closed for the day. Staff from these locations will be reassigned to larger pool facilities across the city.
This strategic reallocation will allow Recreation & Parks to:
Maintain normal operating hours at the remaining six pool locations
Avoid mid-afternoon closures between 2:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.
Provide additional support to address ongoing staffing needs
Morning swim lessons scheduled at Mineral Springs Pool on June 12 will proceed as planned.
Concessions are provided at Waterworks and Bolton Long Creek (credit cards or cash), and water fountains are located here as well as at the rest of the pools.
Additionally, splash pads are also available throughout the city for relief from the heat.
Recreation & Parks appreciates the community’s understanding and cooperation as it prioritizes safety during extreme weather conditions. Residents are encouraged to stay hydrated, limit outdoor activity during peak heat hours, and visit one of the city’s open pool locations to cool off safely.
